Absoft to host first overseas forum tackling cost savings in the supply chain

Wednesday, Aug 22, 2012

OPERATORS and oilfield service companies using SAP are being invited to hear from two business software specialists at an event aimed at exploring materials management best practice and cost saving opportunities in the oil and gas supply chain, taking place next month (Tuesday, September 11) in Stavanger, Norway.

The event is the first international meeting in a series of forums organised by specialist software consultancy Absoft, one of the leading independent SAP providers in the UK, specifically aimed at giving upstream oil and gas businesses in Norway using SAP software an opportunity to share best practice and discuss challenges with experts in the field.

The forum, which is free to attend, will be chaired by Kyrre Andresen, vice president of vendor relations, contracts and procurement for major oilfield service firm Dolphin Drilling AS.

Delegates will hear from Absoft’s SAP oil and gas solutions architect Bjoern Harzer, who will discuss how delegates can optimise their warehousing service using the data already available in their SAP system. He will demonstrate how the data can be used to recognise trends, adjust stocking policies and introduce cost savings.

The event will also include a presentation from Absoft’s sales manager Tim Galloway, who will explore the cost savings which can be made in the offshore returns process by effectively managing people, processes and technology across a business.

Don Valentine, operations director and head of Absoft’s oil and gas team, says: “As we further our expansion into the Norwegian market we want to engage directly with our potential customer base in the region.

“Our quarterly forums have already proved popular with UK customers so it seemed natural that we try and emulate this success in Norway, particularly as there are currently no other SAP forums in Norway that focus solely on the oil and gas sector.

“This forum will demonstrate how SAP can create a more efficient and streamlined materials management process, improving stock traceability as well as providing cost savings by potentially reducing the stock balance sheet by up to 10 percent and doubling re-usage of existing stock.”

The forum, which includes tea and coffee on arrival, runs from 9.00am to 11.45am at the Norwegian Petroleum Museum, Stavanger. It will be followed by an informal buffet lunch at the museum’s restaurant.
