Senergy and Apache announce technology transfer agreement
Monday, Oct 08, 2012

Two pioneering energy industry companies have announced a partnership to provide the oil and gas industry with previously proprietary geosteering and other software that can improve the evaluation and productivity of unconventional resource developments.

Senergy, which provides fully-integrated project and asset development services across the energy industry, will receive patented and unique geosteering software designed by Apache as part of a Cooperative Software Development Agreement, and the technology will be used within Senergy’s Interactive Petrophysics (IPTM) and Oilfield Data Manager (ODMTM) software suites.

The new technology package consists of PetroSleekTM, a patented and innovative tool for geosteering, together with several other unique modules which perform a variety of calculations to enhance the evaluation of subsurface formation data. Additional tools in the package include a complete unconventional resources workflow, a fluid properties tool and a salinity calculation tool.

John Fraser, Senergy’s Vice President of Software, commented:

“Senergy is delighted to have reached agreement with Apache, one of our leading customers, to commercialize PetroSleekTM and offer it to the wider market. With the large number of high angle and horizontal wells now being drilled globally it has become essential to be able to position a well correctly in a target subsurface formation to maximize the productivity and therefore the value of the well.  PetroSleekTM enables geologists and drillers to visualize the well position in real time so they can make the necessary adjustments to steer the well to the correct target. Apache has been very supportive of our technology and this agreement enables us to bring new technology, which other customers have been requesting also, to the market more quickly than we could otherwise have done.

Mike Bahorich, Chief Technology Officer of Apache, commented:

“PetroSleekTM geosteering software, developed by Apache, will now be available to the industry through Senergy.   PetroSleekTM is an innovative geosteering visualization tool, and has been proven to be highly beneficial on Apache projects worldwide. We are pleased to provide this advanced geosteering tool to the oil and gas industry through our agreement with Senergy.”

IPTM is a powerful petrophysics analysis tool developed by Senergy’s team of petrophysicists as a versatile technology to enable fast and accurate multi zone, multi well field analysis. The latest version includes nDPredictor, a statistical tool typically used for porosity and water saturation predictions from mud log and drilling data; SandPIT 3D, which assists production engineers to determine the likelihood of rock failure in sandstone reservoirs; and a Total Organic Content module.

ODMTM is an integration and interpretation software program designed to store, manage, and interpret geological well data. ODMTM enables the geoscientist to quickly and easily incorporate and visualize numerous forms of data with the objective of using all available information to make an informed interpretation of the sub-surface geology.

Senergy, which was established in 2005, employs more than 700 people worldwide across its Aberdeen headquarters and through a network of global offices in the UK, Norway, the Middle East, Australia, South East Asia and the Americas. The company has rapidly emerged as a global leader in diversified energy services through organic growth and a series of acquisitions.

Apache Corporation (NYSE, Nasdaq: APA) is an independent oil and gas exploration and production company with operations in the United States, Canada, Egypt, Australia, the United Kingdom sector of the North Sea and Argentina as well as global exploration activities.
