Global energy services company Senergy has received a special commendation at the 2012 ITP Oil & Gas Middle East Awards in recognition of a donation of software licences it made to the Petroleum Institute of Abu Dhabi.
The company was given the commendation in the Middle East National Graduate Training Scheme of the Year category at the annual industry awards ceremony. Senergy was recognised after providing Interactive Petrophysics (IP)™ software licences worth more than US$2 million to the students of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s Petroleum Institute.
“Senergy was highly commended by the judges for its contribution to development of local engineering talent in the U.A.E.,” said Daniel Canty, Group Editor, ITP Energy Titles. “The Oil & Gas Middle East Awards celebrate excellence amongst the region’s outstanding upstream industry, and seek out best in class organisations, projects and the people who have proven that by going that extra mile.”
Senergy provides fully-integrated project and asset development services across the energy industry, making it a natural partner for the Petroleum Institute which operates as a leading international educational and research centre for the oil and gas industry.
The Petroleum Institute’s masters students will be trained on Senergy’s IP™ software, an easy-to-use log analysis tool that is ideal for petrophysicists, geologists and reservoir engineers wanting to quality check their log data because they are likely to engage with the product when they graduate and go on to work with companies like the country’s state-controlled energy firms.
Senergy’s Chief Executive Officer, James McCallum, said: “This is tremendous industry recognition of Senergy’s commitment to collaborating with education and training institutes to help ensure the industry’s next generation of talent. The development of regional skills and expertise in countries rich in energy resources across the world - such as the Middle East - is one of the key ways for the global industry to mitigate the ongoing skills challenge.”
Senergy has engaged in a number of initiatives aimed at nurturing future talent for the industry. Earlier this year, the company donated software licences worth more than US$3 million for its IP tool to one of Malaysia’s leading universities, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), to equip geosciences and petroleum engineering students and researchers with industry standard evaluation capabilities.
The IP tool was developed by Senergy’s team of petrophysicists as a versatile and portable technology to enable fast and accurate multi-zone, multi-field well analysis. The software is currently used by more than 500 companies in around 70 countries across the world.
Senergy is also working with UTP to develop research and development programmes which will include investigations to connect renewable power to the national electricity grid.
Among other collaborative projects that Senergy is involved with is an innovative agreement with the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. Both parties have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreeing to cooperate in supporting the further development of the University’s dedicated exploHUB training centre to deliver outstanding training in hydrocarbon exploration to the industry.
Senergy’s fast-evolving global reach, strong client base and its desire to offer integrated development opportunities to its staff, combined with exploHUB’s training expertise and desire to attract further trainees, will see the parties working together on various projects related to exploHUB.
